COVID-19: Odisha Govt Trains 500 MBBS Students To Deal With Pandemic

Bhubaneswar: In order to provide timely medical care to those infected with COVID-19, the Odisha government has trained and kept ready a team of 500 MBBS students for dealing with the cases.

Odisha government’s chief spokesperson on COVID-19, Subroto Bagchi on Friday stated, “As many as 500 MBBS students have been given COVID-19 online training as approved by the Government of India.”

As per reports, the state government has also kept some paramedic students like nurses on standby for dealing with the cases during an emergency.

It is also planning to engage nearly 8,000 doctors, staff nurses, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, radiographers and health workers (male and female) for dealing with the pandemic.

Earlier, it had issued a notification seeking qualified specialists, including retired professionals, for providing their services on contract basis for three months starting from April 1, 2020.

Currently, 7,564 doctors and dentists are posted at various hospitals across the state.

Till date, 20 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha.
