IIT Delhi Develops Breathable PPE Suits That Can Be Reused Thrice

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has developed a personal protective equipment (PPE) suit ensuring adequate levels of breathability. It can also be reused up to three times.

Designed by a teacher-student duo, the PPE suit is made of polyester woven fabric and the coating applied over the suit has made it lightweight, breathable and comfortable to wear, the institute’s statement read.

“Breathability and feel of the coverall has been a major challenge and we have ensured we reach adequate levels of breathability and a softer feel, to support extended wearability,” Professor Emeritus, Department of Textile and Fibre Engineering at IIT Delhi, Dr S M Ishtiaque told NDTV.

Moreover, the suit can also resist oil and water, giving complete protection to healthcare workers against coronavirus, the institute added.
