IIT-Delhi Offers Supercomputer PADUM For Research On COVID-19

New Delhi: To assist the nation in its fight against COVID-19, Indian Institute Of Technology (IIT) Delhi has offered its supercomputer PADUM for carrying out a research on the deadly virus.

As per reports, IIT Delhi has invited proposals from the government and private academic institutions as well as private companies for using its supercomputer for the research work.

The Institute is also offering a total computational time worth Rs one crore to the researchers for free.

A press release issued by the institution stated, “Under this, allocation of supercomputer resource to merit-based proposals will be made for three months and a total of Rs 1 crore worth of computational time will be provided to them for free. Each proposal will have a maximum cap of Rs 10 lakh worth of computational resource.”

Based on the performance of the researchers, the allocation period of three months can be extended to six months.

Interested candidates can submit their proposals to the institute by April 15, 2020.

The proposals will be evaluated by the experts from IIT Delhi on first-come-first-serve basis.

Director of IIT Delhi, V Ramgopal Rao, as quoted in IE said, “In these difficult times, sharing of resources is important  to address the infrastructure requirements of researchers working on the Corona epidemic. It is important for scientists to collaborate with each other given the urgency of the situation.”
