Indian Railway Pulls Off World’s Largest Recruitment Drive!

Indian Railway, the largest employer in the world, has successfully conducted one of the largest recruitment exercises, in which 2.4 crore applications were received for 1.27 lakh vacancies, said a statement by the Railways.

The Railways had issued two recruitment notifications in 2018 for filling up 1.27 lakh vacancies – one notification for Assistant Loco Pilots (ALP) and technicians and the other for Level-I (erstwhile Group-D) posts.

The total number of vacancies for Assistant Loco Pilots and technicians were 64,371 for which the Railways received around 47.45 lakh applications.

The total number of vacancies for Level-I posts were 63,202 and 1.9 crore candidates had applied for these posts.

The total number of applications received by the railways for the recruitment drives makes it the largest recruitment exercise in the world, the railways said.

Computer Based Test (CBT)-1 for Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) and Technician Posts:
The CBT for the posts of ALP and technician recruitment was conducted in 33 shifts over 11 days from August 09 to September 04, 2018 at 440 Test Centres in 166 cities across India and they recorded the highest attendance, with about 36.42 lakh candidates.

CBT-2 for ALP and Technician posts:
The Railways conducted the second stage of CBT from January 21-23, 2019 in 9 shifts. Panels (Candidates who have been selected) for the posts of ALP and technicians for around 17,500 posts have been furnished to the railways. The rest of the panels are under process due to medical appeal cases.

CBT for Level-1 (Erstwhile Group -D)
The CBT for Level-1 commenced from September 17, 2018 and was successfully completed on December 17, 2018.
“The exam was conducted in 152 shifts in 405 exam centres. Total number of eligible candidates were 1,89,82,719 (approx. 1.90 crores) out of which 1,17,14,754 appeared for the CBT which is around 61.71 per cent. This was followed by Physical Efficiency Test (PET), document verification and medical examination,” the railways said.
Panels of around 53,000 posts have been furnished for Level-1 posts. The rest of the panels, in this case too, are under process due to medical appeal cases. The zonal railways will soon be advised about the rest of the panels, it said.

CBT -1 FOR JE, DMS and CMA
For the posts of Junior Engineers, Depot Material Superintendent (DMS), chemical and Metallurgical Assistant (CMA), Railway Recruitment Board conducted the first stage CBT from May 22, 2019 to June 02, 2019 and June 26-28, 2019, for 24.75 lakh candidates. It was conducted in 35 shifts over 12 days at 356 Centres in 109 cities across India. The attendance was about 62.5 per cent.

CBT-2 For JE, DMS and CMA
The second stage of CBT for the JE, DMS and CMA was conducted from August 28, 2019 to September 01, 2019 in 10 shifts. The attendance was around 88 per cent. The candidates will be intimated shortly for medical examination and document verification.
