The university held its annual convocation on Wednesday which was attended by the President Ram Nath Kovind and Minister of Human Resource and Development Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.

Speaking on the occasion the President said that the government has been making changes in education eco-system to adapt it to contemporary challenges. He said that in order to connect every section of the society with development, University’s Social Responsibility (USR) like Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) needs to be emphasised. He noted that Jamia has adopted five villages and asked if it can adopt some more villages.

University vice-chancellor Najma Akhtar said “Jamia played a crucial role during the freedom struggle and in a true sense, it is a nationalistic institution where teachers work hard to motivate students to work towards nation-building.

The Foundation of the university was based on the spirit of nationalism.” The Chancellor of Jamia Milia Islamia, Najma Heptualla (Governor of Manipur) was also present on the occasion. A book titled “Jamia Aur Gandhi” written in Hindi by JMI alumnus and journalist Afroz Alam Sahil was also released on the occasion.
