Student To Evaluate Teacher Under 360-Degree Feedback; Details Here

New Delhi: The Human Resource Development Ministry on Wednesday launched a programme where students will evaluate teachers’ performance in class.

The students will give objective as well as their personal experience by answering 14 questions, said a statement issued by the Ministry.

The 360-degree feedback scheme will also see the self-evaluation of teachers that will fetch 25 marks and their contribution to society. This will carry 10 marks.

The head of the department would assess the teacher on a scale of 20 while the principal will further add 10 marks while preparing the annual confidential report of the teacher, the statement said.

The statement, however, did not make it clear the type of schools, the boards and the institutes where the measure will be implemented.

A few teachers, Education Bytes spoke, expressed their reservation about the new system, saying they were aware of the formulation of the new measure. A teacher of DAV Public School in Delhi said students, especially in primary and secondary classes, would not be mature enough to evaluate a teacher or understand the teaching pedagogy.

“The teacher is under stress these days and the new measure will further burden them from performing their duties efficiently,” she said.

An official in the HRD Ministry, however, said the teaching fratenity must appreciate the merit of the scheme as the evolving education system demands quality outcome in classes.

The 360-degree initiative was one of the recommendations of the 7th pay commission. AICTE in association with Smart Cookie has developed an online framework to collect the feedback data.
