Medical College In Chandigarh Develops Robotic Trolley To Protect Healthcare Workers From Coronavirus

Chandigarh: The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here has developed a low-cost robotic trolley to deliver food, medicines to the COVID-19 patients in isolation wards.

The robotic device named DOOT (delivery, observance and orchestrated telecommunication) will ensure that the healthcare workers in the hospitals are protected from the community transmission of the infection.

“By delivering medicines and food among patients in the isolation wards, wherein the chances of getting infected with the virus are maximum for the healthcare workers, this automated trolley will help in reducing their interaction with COVID-19 patients to a great extent,” PGIMER Director Jagat Ram told the media on Saturday.

Designed by resident doctors Pranay Mahajan and Shailesh Gahukar, the department has spent Rs 25,000 to develop the device. It will cater to the local needs of the hospital, the doctors said.
