10 Schools Renamed After India’s Hockey Players In This State

Chandigarh: India’s Olympic medal in hockey after 40 years called for celebrations across the country. Soon after the celebrations, it was time for the felicitation of the players.

Till date, Punjab has shown the most unique way to honour 10 players from the soil who were instrumental in India’s superb performance at Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Ten schools here have been renamed after the hockey players who represented India in Tokyo.

Punjab school education minister Vijay Inder Singla announced the same officially on August 22 following Chief minister Amarinder Singh’s approval.

The Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Mithapur, Jalandhar has been named after captain Manpreet Singh and will be called Olympian Manpreet Singh Government Senior Secondary School, Mithapur.

The GSSS, Timmowal, in Amritsar has been named after vice-captain Harmanpreet Singh, the top scorer for India in the Olympics with six goals. The school will now be known as Olympian Harmanpreet Singh GSSS, Timmowal.

The Government High School, Chahal Kalan, Gurdaspur, has been named Olympian Simranjit Singh Government High School Chahal Kalan, Gurdaspur.

Other schools rechristened include GSSS Attari, Amritsar, which will now be called Olympian Shamsher Singh Government Senior Secondary School, Attari, the Government Primary School, Mithapur, Jalandhar will now be called Olympian Mandeep Singh, the Government Middle School, (Basic Girls), Faridkot will be known as Olympian Rupinderpal Singh Government Middle School, the Government Middle School, Khusropur, Jalandhar has been named after Olympian Hardik Singh and the Government Primary School Khalaihara, Amritsar will now be known as Olympian Gurjant Singh Government Primary School Khalaihara.
