100 Karnataka Engineering Colleges To Be Adopted By Corporates

MoUs signed with Finland and Switzerland, strengthening ties in innovation and technology and ensuring that startups gain access to global markets, says IT Minister Kharge

HYDERABAD: Hundred engineering colleges in are all set to be ‘adopted’ by corporates by next year, State’s Information Technology Minister Priyank Kharge has announced recently, adding that the move is as part of the effort by the government to rope in industries to improve the employment prospects of students.

Many companies are eager to provide jobs but students are not industry-ready due to lack of training.

“We suggested that they (companies) give training. We will create an environment for it. They (companies) have asked us to provide a framework. Hundred colleges will be adopted by 100 corporates or GCCs (Global Capability Centres) working in Karnataka by next academic year,” Kharge said.

Nipuna Karnataka

With the launch of ‘Nipuna Karnataka’ initiative, Kannadigas will be the ‘most equipped, well trained with the best of skillsets, and the most employable’ youth in the world.

“The Nipuna Karnataka saw collaborations with IBM, Intel, Microsoft, NVIDIA, BFSI Consortium and Accenture to drive skilling and workforce transformation. Through these MoUs, Karnataka will train around 1 lakh trainees in a year,” Kharge said.

He said a Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) was signed between the Department of Electronics, IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka and DRDO on cooperation and promotion of defence industrial ecosystem of Karnataka, at Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS) held recently.

The Minister said that MoUs were signed with Finland and Switzerland, strengthening ties in innovation and technology and ensuring that startups gain access to global markets.

Centre of excellence in AI

A new centre of excellence in AI would be set up with IIT Alumni Centre Bengaluru. The facility will provide incubation space to startups, skill and train in AI and ensure they get market access. “It is one of the first of its kind in India and the first time that IIT is tying up with the state government for any centre of excellence of this kind,” he added.
