Chennai: The Tamil Nadu police on Wednesday said that a 19-year-old boy allegedly killed himself, who was found floating in a well at a village near his home. The boy was identified as Vignesh.
Vishwanathan, the father said, his son Vignesh (19), took the extreme step over fear and anxiety about the forthcoming National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
Earlier, Vignesh had secured a seat in agricultural sciences last year but had decided to study harder to crack the NEET. He cleared class XII two years ago and he was from Elanthankuzhi village in Ariyalur district.
An initial investigation revealed that the boy was anxious for some time over the NEET exam scheduled on September 13. However, no suicide note has been found as of yet. “He was anxious about the score he could get this time around though he has passed the exam earlier,” a police officer was quoted as saying by India TV.
“He had gone to sleep last night as usual. His family members found him missing from the home early this morning and his body was later found floating in a well in his village,” an officer with the district police said.
Asked if any suicide note was found, the officer told news agency PTI, “No note has been found yet, however, inquiries indicate that this is a suicide. The body was sent to a government hospital for autopsy,” he said.
