38 Universities Allowed By UGC To Offer Online Degree Programmes

New Delhi: The full-fledged online degree programmes have been approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 38 universities across the country. This implies that the 38 higher educational institutions will not need any prior approval from the UGC to start full-fledged online courses.

Master Of Arts (Education) and Master Of Arts (Public Administration) will be offered online by Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI). Jawaharlal Nehru University will offer Master Of Arts in Sanskrit while Mizoram University will offer four online degree courses. Master Of Arts (English) and Master Of Commerce will be offered in online mode by the University Of Jammu.

The UGC has approved a total of 15 deemed to be universities, 13 state universities and three central universities to offer online degree courses. Private universities — OP Jindal Global University, Chandigarh University and Manipal University — also have been given permission to pursue online degree courses.

“Online applications had been invited from all entitled HEls willing to offer programmes under online mode for the year 2020-21. Each HEI was required to submit an affidavit for ensuring compliance to all the provisions of the University Grants Commission (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020,” the UGC said via a statement.
