New Delhi: The Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana was launched by the Centre in a bid to empower the youth of the country. The Yojana is aimed at providing entry-level training in industry-relevant skills through Railway training institutes, according to a press release. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the programme.
As many as 50,000 candidates will be trained over a period of three years. Initially, 1000 candidates will be trained.
Training will be imparted in electrician, welder, machinist and fitter trades; zonal railways and production units will add the training programmes in other trades based on regional demands and needs assessment.
“Training shall be provided free of cost and participants will be selected from applications received online, following a transparent mechanism on the basis of marks in matriculation. Candidates who are 10th passed and between 18-35 years shall be eligible to apply. Participants in the scheme shall however have no claim to seek employment in Railways on the basis of this training,” read the official press release.
