5,400 Teaching Posts Vacant In Central Universities, Says Union Minister
The Central universities have been instructed to fill the vacancies in a regular mode, Sukanta Majumdar informs the Rajya Sabha
NEW DELHI: More than 5,400 teaching posts are vacant across all Central universities, with more than half of them reserved for OBC, ST, and SC categories, Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar has informed the Rajya Sabha.
As per the information shared by the Minister in response to a written question, Majumdar said that more than 7,825 teaching positions have been filled in all Central universities through special recruitment drives.
As of January 31, as many as 5,410 teaching posts were vacant across the central universities, including 788 reserved for SC, 472 for ST, and 1,521 for OBC.
“Occurring of vacancies and filling thereof is a continuous process. The vacancies arise due to retirement, resignation and additional requirements on account of enhanced students’ strength and the onus of filling up the posts lies on the Central Universities,” Majumdar said in the Upper House.
Majumdar said that the University Grants Commission (UGC) regularly monitors the institutions and the Central universities have been instructed to fill the vacancies in a regular mode.
