58-Year-Old Woman Appears For HSC Exam In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Age is no bar to pursue education. This has been proved true by 58-year-old Archana Dash from Badamangalpur village in Jajpur district, who shed all inhibitions and enrolled for the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination this year after a gap of 42 years.

Archana, a mother of two, couldn’t clear the HSC exams during her school days. Now, her two graduate children encouraged her to appear for the test again. They even enrolled their mother as an ex-regular student for answering the matriculation examination at the Zilla High School.

Speaking about her bold endeavour, Archana said, “I had to quit education after I got married. Daily chores did not leave me with much time to study. But after seeing my children study, I made up my mind to at least pass matriculation.”

Earlier, she had appeared for the HSC examination in 1978, but couldn’t clear it. Then, she got married and couldn’t pursue her studies further.
