Kharagpur: The Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur on Wednesday announced that its novel testing technology that was meant to detect coronavirus was recently certified by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi.
The institute took to its official Twitter account to break the news. It wrote, “We are glad to inform you that the novel testing technology for #COVID19 developed by Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Dr. Arindam Mondal and their team at @IITKgp has been recently certified by @ICMRDELHI.”

The technology developed by Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Dr Arindam Mondal and their team made news in July.
“Pool testing is possible. The same portable unit can be used for a large number of tests, on mere replacement of the paper cartridge after each test. At least 10 different samples can be tested every hour,” Prof. Chakraborty had then told a leading daily.
The live event was shown on the institute’s YouTube Channel and the technology was then launched. Watch the video below.
The portable rapid diagnostic device that tests samples to detect COVID-19 infection within an hour costs Rs 400 only. The test results either Covid positive or Covid negative is then sent to the patient’s mobile through a smartphone app.
