UGC Grants IoEs Permission To Set Up Campuses Abroad
New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has amended its regulations to allow campuses abroad for the Institutes of Eminence (IoEs) with prior approval. This includes a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Union Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs.
Under these amendments, IoEs can also start new campus centres, with a maximum of three in five years, and not more than once in an academic year. The institutes have also been allowed to start an off-campus centre in an interim campus, provided the permanent campus is ready within five years, reported ABP Education.
As per amendments, the onus is on the universities to check the norms and standards of the off-shore campus and that it maintains the level of the main campus for similar courses. These include consistency in admission criteria, curriculum, exam system and evaluation across campuses. The details of off-shore campuses must be shared on the IoE website.
