IIT-Jammu Organises First-Ever Convocation Ceremony In Hybrid Mode
Jammu: The first-ever convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu was held in hybrid mode on Saturday, January 9, 2021.
A total of 79 students received B Tech degrees in the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering at a ceremony organised in a hybrid mode.
Among the 79 graduates, 39 students got degrees in the campus while 40 others received the degrees via online mode.
Taijaswaini Agarwal received the President of India Gold Medal for her excellent academic performance. She scored the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) across departments.
The ceremony was kicked off with a plantation drive by the Chairman and Director. The processions of Senate moved to the stage with background recitation of Vedic chants, reported news agency ANI.
Gurcharan Das delivered the commencement address and talked about “Making a life instead of making a living”.
However, Professor Arogyaswamy J Paulraj, a Padma Bhushan awardee and an Indian-American electrical engineer, delivered the convocation address.
The convocation ceremony was chaired by the Chairman – Board of Governors, Sharad Kumar Saraf. The chairman travelled all the way from Mumbai to Jammu for the ceremony along with the director, Professor Manoj Singh Gaur, Chairman, Convocation committee, Professor Ashoke K Sarkar and Registrar, IIT Jammu-Colonel Sanjay Dahiya, according to ANI.
