New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the young doctors to retain their sense of humour while addressing the 33rd Convocation of Dr MGR Medical University on Friday.
Remembering the former CM, the prime minister said that Dr Ramachandran would have been proud of the success of the institute and its students. He also said that the matters of healthcare, education and empowerment of women were dear to him.
According to the prime minister, MBBS seats have increased by 30,000 in the last 6 years, which is a 50 per cent rise. Also, PG medical seats have increased by 4,000, an increase of 80 per cent since 2014. Fifteen new AIIMS have also been sanctioned in the last 6 years in the country.
Speaking on the medical profession, PM Modi pointed out that doctors are amongst the country’s most respected community. The respect has only increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. But, on a lighter note, he has asked the young doctors to know the difference between being serious and to look serious. “I request all of you to still keep your sense of humour intact. It will also help you cheer up your patients and keep their morale high,” PM Modi said.
