New Delhi: Union Minister of Human Resource and Development Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Monday in Parliament said that the CBSE class X and class XII Board exams from 2020 onwards will be conducted under a new format. He said the change in question pattern will discourage rot learning, develop critical thinking and reasoning abilities among students.
Replying to a question in Parliament, he said there will be an overall reduction in number of questions in the board exams. The changes as presented by the Minister are as follows:
Twenty five per cent of the questions will be of objective types.
Subjective type questions will be slashed.
Internal assessment in all subjects.
Internal assessment will count for 20 per cent marks in subjects in which there is no practical assessment.
More than 10 lakh students appear in the CBSE board exams every year.
Last week, CBSE secretary Anurag Tripathi had announced major reforms in Class X and XII question papers. While the question pattern will change from 2020, there will be further revision from 2023 to help a student develop his/her cognitive abilities.
“The questions will be based on critical thinking and encourage a student to develop a creative bend of mind and innovative abilities. It will be far removed from the rot-based learning process,” he had said at an event.
