Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has directed its students to vacate the hostels and return to their homes in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The university took the call after an online meeting of the top officials on Thursday, May 27. The varsity issued the order the very next day through registrar Abdul Hamid.
According to AMU spokesperson Professor Shafey Kidwai, it is in “the interest of students and their health that they vacate the hostels and stay in the safety of their homes”.
Former AMU students’ union president Faizul Hasan said by staying in hostels, students from rural areas were able to continue with their online studies, which would be difficult if they had to go back home where connectivity is poor, reported ABP Education.
