New Delhi: In a major relief to the candidates with a degree in BEd special education, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has cleared the decks for them to become teachers for classes I to V in elementary schools.
The NCTE, in a gazette notification issued a couple of days back, said that candidates who have qualification of three-year integrated BEd-MEd from any NCTE-recognised institution shall be eligible for appointment as a teacher in classes I to V, reported The Times of India.
However, a person getting an appointment as a teacher need to mandatorily undergo an NCTE-recognised six-month bridge course in elementary education, within a span of two years of such appointment.
Earlier according to NCTE guidelines, candidates with BEd special education degrees were entitled to become teachers only for classes VI to VIII.
