RSP Collaborates With NIT Rourkela For Organic Farming Project

Bhubaneswar: A training programme on ‘Waste to Wealth’, sustainable organic farming techniques was introduced at SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on November 30.

ED (P&A) of RSP, PK Satapathy and NIT-Rourkela director, Professor Simanchalo Panigrahi were present at the inaugural function at Institute for Peripheral Development, Sector-20.  A Vermicompost Unit was inaugurated to mark the commencement of the project.

GM Incharge (CSR), Munmun Mittra, NIT Rourkela professors, Nihar Ranjan Mishra and Rama Chandra Pradhan, were also present on the dais.

Satapathy highlighted the importance of organic farming and its relevance in the modern-day genetically modified seeds and adulterated food items with special reference to healthy living.

Professor Panigrahi highlighted the advantages and needs of student involvement and networking for better results.

The joint venture at the approximate cost of Rs 45 lakh is spread over 48 months. It aims at addressing the common interest of both RSP and NIT in terms of agriculture by creating organic farming sites at different locations of RSP peripheral areas and Horticulture Department areas.
