Education Gets Rs 99,300 Crore In Union Budget 2020-21; Highlights Of Education Budget
New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, presenting the Budget 2020-2021, announced that the government has allocated Rs 99,300 crore for the education sector. In her budget speech, the Finance Minister also said Rs 3,000 crore has been allocated for skill development.
The allocated budget for education is an increase of over 5 per cent from the budget allocated in the last Budget, an interim Budget presented in February last year.

- Increased Budget
Rs 99,300 crore has been allocated for the education sector and Rs 3,000 crore for skill development for the next fiscal. Steps will be be taken to attract external commercial borrowing and FDI in the education sector, the finance minister said.
- Bridging Skill Gap
To improve quality, special bridge courses will be designed for teachers, nurses, para medical staff, caregivers, she said.
- Greater Access Through Online Learning
She said government is planning to allow degree level full-fledged online education programme by institutions ranked in top 100.
- PPP Model For Medical Colleges
The government has also proposed to attach medical colleges with district hospitals on PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model to deal with shortage of doctors.
- Boosting Study in India Program
India-Sat is proposed to be held in Asian and African countries to benchmark foreign candidates who receive scholarships.
- Increasing Employability through Internships
The FM said the government plans to start a programme for urban local bodies to provide opportunities for internship to young engineers.
