Maharashtra government renames the State Skills Development University as ‘Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skills Development University’

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh government has decided to set up an innovation hub named after Tata Group former chairman and business tycoon Ratan Tata who passed away recently.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu made the announcement in this regard at a review meeting held to discuss draft policies for the industrial and MSME sectors on October 14, 2024.

The Ratan Tata Innovation Hub will serve as a centre for skill development, startups, facilitation and innovation, and will be connected to the five ‘centres of excellence’ in Andhra Pradesh, with each centre being mentored by a multinational company, Naidu said.

The Ratan Tata Innovation Hub is expected to play a pivotal role in driving forward the state’s industrial sector, aligning with Andhra Pradesh’s goals of fostering innovation and enhancing ease of doing business.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has announced that it will rename the Maharashtra State Skills Development University as ‘Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skills Development University’.

The decision was taken in the State Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on October 14.

Set up in 2022, this institution offers multiple skill-oriented diploma and degree courses along with imparting training for entrepreneurship.

This decision is a tribute to the late Ratan Tata, a renowned industrialist and philanthropist, celebrated for his dedication to social causes, education, and skill development across India.

Baharat Ratna sought for Ratan Tata

Earlier, the Maharashtra Cabinet-led by Shinde passed a resolution urging the Central government to confer the country’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna on Ratan Tata.

Ratan Tata died in Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai at 86 years of age on October 9, 2024.
