CBSE 12th Results: Education Ministry Cuts Revaluation Fees, Defends OSM System

NEW DELHI: Amid apprehensions from students and parents linking the dip in pass percentage in CBSE 12th examinations to the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has slashed fees for post-result services such as obtaining scanned copies of answer sheets, verification of marks, and revaluation requests.

The CBSE has also stated that students will receive a full refund of the review fee if their marks increase after revaluation.

Under the new structure, students will now have to pay Rs 100 to obtain scanned copies of evaluated answer sheets and Rs 100 for verification of marks.

CBSE has revised the re-evaluation and verification of marks charges to Rs 100. The fee for correction or revaluation requests has been reduced to Rs 25 per question.

Earlier, students reportedly had to pay Rs 700 per subject for scanned copies of evaluated answer sheets, Rs 500 for verification requests, and Rs 100 per question for revaluation, said an official notification.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has sought to allay concerns over the newly introduced OSM system, calling it “foolproof” and in line with international practices.

“98 lakh sheets scanned were for class 12. Three levels of security were followed during the process. It was found that despite repeated scanning, there were still some legibility issues because the ink used in some answer sheets was of a very light colour. Even after scanning, those scripts could not be made fully legible,” he said.
