SSC Combined Graduate Level Exam From 30 September: Last Minute Revision Tips
New Delhi: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is set to conduct the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Tier 1 examination from September 30 to October 30. Under this recruitment drive, a total of 10,731 vacancies will be filled across various central government departments.
With the exam approaching, candidates should now focus on revising important topics, practising questions and improving their speed instead of trying to cover the entire syllabus again. Solving previous year papers and attempting mock tests during the final preparation helps to score well in the SSC CGL Exam.
Last Minute Preparation Tips
At this stage, candidates must focus on following a simple and effective revision strategy. Trying to cover the entire syllabus again is not feasible. Instead focus on topics that have already been studied and revise them thoroughly. Check some of the preparation tips given below:
- Prepare a revision schedule and divide time among all four subjects.
- Revise important formulas, grammar rules, vocabulary and frequently asked questions.
- Practice previous year questions to understand the paper pattern.
- Take sectional mock tests and analyse your mistakes after every test.
- Do not spend too much time on learning completely new topics.
- Revise questions that you got wrong during previous mock tests.
- Take proper breaks and get enough sleep before the examination
Important Topics to Revise
Candidates should focus on allocating proper time to the important topics for the SSC CGL Exam. The exam consists of four subjects: English, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning and General Awareness. Each section consists of 25 questions with 50 marks allotted to each subject. The section wise topics that can be covered during the last minute preparation are given below:
General Intelligence and Reasoning: Revise topics such as analogy, number and alphabet series, coding & decoding, classification, blood relations, Venn diagrams and non-verbal reasoning. Candidates must practise questions within the prescribed time of 15 minutes to improve their speed.
General Awareness: Candidates must focus on important subjects such as History, Geography, Indian Polity, Economics, General Science and Current Affairs. Instead of covering new topics, revise short notes and facts already covered during preparation.
Quantitative Aptitude: Candidates must focus on revising important formulas and practise calculation-based questions from percentage, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, average, time, speed and distance, simple and compound interest, algebra, geometry and mensuration.
English Comprehension: Revise grammar rules, vocabulary, error detection, sentence improvement, synonyms, antonyms, cloze tests and reading comprehension. Regularly revising commonly confused words and grammar rules helps during the final preparation.
Last Minute Revision Strategy
The final days must be used for revision and practice purposes only. Candidates must follow the simple steps given below:
- Start the day by revising formulas, vocabulary and important facts.
- Solve a set of previous year questions or a mock test.
- Analyse incorrect answers and revise the concepts.
- Keep separate short notes for topics that require repeated revision.
- Avoid taking multiple full-length tests without analysing sectional tests
Exam Day Tips
On the examination day, candidates must reach the examination centre before the reporting time and carry all the required documents and items mentioned in the SSC CGL Admit Card. During the examination read every question and avoid spending too much time on any single question.
Since the Tier 1 examination also has negative marking, candidates must attempt questions they know and avoid random guessing. A calm approach, proper time management and quick revision of important concepts can help candidates perform better in the exam.
