New Delhi: The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have barred 22 companies from campus placements for the next two recruitment cycles after the firms failed to honour job offers made to graduating students.
The action follows the 15 September deadline set by the All IITs Placement Committee (AIPC) for companies to fulfil commitments. More than 150 offers across 23 IITs were withdrawn, with some firms rescinding up to 15 to 20 offers each.
Placement officials described the move as “non‑cooperation” rather than outright blacklisting. The affected companies will be excluded from IIT recruitment drives for two years.
Sources revealed that Oracle is among those penalised, having allegedly failed to honour around 40 offers. Several startups are also understood to be on the list, which will be finalised and communicated to the firms by 30 September.
The decision comes amid continued uncertainty in entry‑level hiring, particularly in the technology sector. Last year, 10 to 11 companies faced similar action at individual IITs, but this year’s coordinated ban across the IIT system marks a tougher stance.
By enforcing accountability, the IITs aim to safeguard students’ career prospects and send a clear signal to recruiters that reneging on commitments will not be tolerated.
