New Delhi: An expert committee formed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) has recommended three models for conducting online examinations in colleges across the country under webcam surveillance.
The team led by the Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Nageshwar Rao, has also advised the government not to make it mandatory for universities to conduct the online examinations given the technology infrastructure, students’ preparedness and other issues.
The three model online examinations include subjective assessment via Google Classroom application wherein the teachers can upload the question paper under the Quiz Assignment option. As recommended by the panel, the test can be conducted for 1.5 hours in batches of 30 students. Google Meet will ensure the camera and audio for invigilation purpose. Also, the students can upload the answer sheets before the deadline.
In another model, the panel has suggested the Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) test through online proctor service which is used to conduct GMAT and GRE examinations. Students will be given a login id and password, the proctor may appear anytime and ask the students for a 360-degree view of the room. There is no scope for cheating during the examination as students looking out of the screens will be issued warnings, the reports said.
Besides this, the colleges may go for case study and projects based evaluation wherein the students will be given a problem statement for which they have to upload the solution before the deadline.
The government is expected to release the guidelines next week.
