After JNU, Jamia Millia Islamia, MANUU and IIT Roorkee Suspend Agreements With Turkish Institutions
These institutes have cancelled many MoUs signed with institutes associated to Turkey after that country supported Pakistan during Operation Sindoor undertaken as a retaliation to Pahalgam terror attack
NEW DELHI: Several reputed education institutes in India have severed their collaborations with the institutes based in Turkey in ‘national interest’.
The institutes suspended several agreement signed with Turkey-based institutes after that country supported Pakistan during the Operation Sindoor carried out by India in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has suspended an agreement with Turkey’s Inonu University citing “national security considerations”, followed by Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) which announced suspension of all Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with institutions affiliated with the Turkish government with immediate effect.
“Due to national security considerations, any Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, and any institution affiliated with the Government of the Republic of Türkiye stands suspended with immediate effect, until further orders. Jamia Millia Islamia stands firmly with the Nation,” Jamia Millia Islamia stated in a post on X.
Due to national security considerations, any Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, and any institution affiliated with the Government of the Republic of Türkiye stands suspended with immediate effect, until further orders.

Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in Hyderabad has also cancelled an MoU with Yunus Emre Institute in Turkey with immediate effect.
#BoycottTurkey is trending amidst India’s conflict with Pakistan last week after Turkey criticised New Delhi for conducting Operation Sindoor and openly backed Pakistan.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has also cancelled an MoU with Inonu University, Turkey. The agreement laid the terms for academic and research collaborations, including student and faculty exchanges between the two institutes.
In a statement, IIT Roorkee emphasised that its international engagements will continue to be guided by “national interest” and strategic academic alignment.
The institute noted that while it remains committed to fostering global research collaborations, such partnerships must support India’s broader objectives in research and innovation.
The cancellation is part of a wider trend among Indian institutions reassessing international academic ties amid growing national security concerns.
Lovely Professional University (LPU) has also terminated all MoUs signed with institutions in Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
The Punjab-based private university has ended six academic collaborations, citing recent geopolitical developments that it considers to be against India’s national interest.
