AICTE Clarifies Validity Of IGNOU BTech Degrees Earned Before 2011-12
New Delhi: Another clarification has been issued by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) regarding the validity of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) BTech degrees, reported website Careers360.
Until 2011-12, IGNOU was offering BTech courses through Online Distance Learning (ODL), but following litigation, in 2018, the Supreme Court passed a judgement approving of degrees awarded to students enrolled till 2009-10, later extending it to 2011-12 enrolled students.
Following the judgement, the university stopped offering BTech courses in ODL mode, and subsequently, AICTE also approved the degrees given to students enrolled till 2011-12.
“AICTE has no objection for B.Tech. Degree/Diploma in Engineering awarded by IGNOU to the students who were enrolled up to the academic year 2011-12 with IGNOU as per Supreme Court Judgement and hence are treated as valid as a special case but cannot be taken as precedence and not for post-2012.” reads the AICTE circular.
