AICTE Issues Academic Calendar For Engineering & Technical Institutions

Bhubaneswar: Following a directive by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has asked the vice-chancellors of the universities, deemed to be universities, affiliated technical institutions and polytechnics to follow the academic calendar for admission as given below:

—Commencement of classes for existing students of Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and Post Graduate Certificate in Management (PGCM): July 1

—Last date for cancellation of seats of PGDM/PGCM with full refund of fees subtracting Rs 1000: July 25.

—Last date of admission in PGDM/ PGCM Courses: July 31.

—The academic session for the PGDM/PGCM courses for newly admitted students: August 1, 2020, to July 21, 2021.

—Last date up-to which students can be admitted in open and distance learning courses in two sessions: August 15, 2020 to February 15, 2021.

—The institutions shall not hike the admission fees or other fees for the academic year 2020-21 and also not force the selected candidates to pay advance fees during the lockdown.

—If examinations of the first-year students of 2019-20 session could not be held before the lockdown, the mode of examination and promotion to the higher classes will be done as per the UGC guidelines on examination circulated on April 29, 2020.

—Institutions may start the session as per above academic calendar in online mode and shift to regular face-to-face mode only after such notification is issued by the Human Resource Development Ministry.

—Due to the shutdown of all educational institutions, some universities could not conduct final year examinations of under graduate courses or could not declare the results. In such cases, the provisional admission of the students may be given and they shall produce the proof of successful completion of the graduation on or before December 31, 2020.

—Institutions located in the red zone areas or near COVID hotspots may start and complete the academic session as per the prevailing situations.

—The institutions should adopt all precautions to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19 to students and staff.

—All the institutions and the stakeholders are requested to adhere to the national agenda in fighting against the COVID-19 and to extend a helping hand towards the needy and affected families.

—All the Institutions should strictly adhere to these guidelines, failing which action will be taken as per the prevailing rules.

The AICTE has asked the secretaries and directors of the State Technical Education as well as the directors and principals of all affiliated technical institutions to ensure the implementation of the UGC guidelines.
