New Delhi: Despite the raging second wave of the COVID-19, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is set to conduct its postgraduate entrance test on June 16. The decision prompted protests by a large number of candidates citing health risks and lockdown restrictions.
The protesting students suggested the exam could be a “super-spreader event”.
The students have also underlined the fact that all other national-level exams have been deferred or cancelled amid the surge in COVID-19 cases. Several candidates have volunteered for COVID duty following an appeal from the government with an implicit assurance about their exams being postponed.
Thus, AIIMS becomes the first educational authority to schedule a national-level examination despite the threatening second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, reported The Telegraph.
The Institutions of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INICET) on June 16 is aimed at filling the 850 MD and MS seats in the 6 operational AIIMS and 3 other medical “institutions of national importance” — PGIMER Chandigarh, Jipmer Puducherry and Nimhans Bangalore.
Other medical colleges in the country shortlist postgraduate students via the NEET-PG organised by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The NEET-PG also has been postponed beyond August 31.
