Allahabad University Prohibits Girl Students From Joining Protests

The Move Comes Against The Backdrop Of Protests Breaking Out In Some Universities Against the Enactment Of Citizenship (Amendment) Act

The University of Allahabad has asked its girl students not to participate in ‘dharnas and protests’ and strictly follow the hostel manual.

The circular from the university comes against the backdrop of several educational institutes across the country joining the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests. It also comes at a time when the girl students of Jawaharlal Nehru University have marched hand in hand with the boys demanding rollback of the hike in tuition fee.

News reports quoted the circular which said the university ordered the move keeping in view the safety of the girls.

What does it say?

“All women students of the hostel campus of the University of Allahabad are expected to strictly follow the hostel manual, keeping in view your safety. Mentioning the time of entry and exit in hostel register along with the signature of the student is mandatory.”

“If you notice someone active in spreading indiscipline or involved in any undesirable or suspicious activity on the campus, kindly inform your campus in-charge. Participating in any dharna or protest without permission is restricted.”

The circular was issued on December 13 by the proctor and campus in-charge (women hostel) Saroj Yadav.

Reports quoting sources said the university issued the circular keeping in view the protests raging in several parts of the country against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
