Allahabad University VC Sangita Srivastava Targeted By Cyber Fraudsters
Prayagraj: Cyber fraudsters targeted the first woman Vice-Chancellor of Allahabad University (AU), Sangita Srivastava, days after she took over as the varsity head.
The fraudsters apparently used an email account in Srivastava’s name to buy online gifts.
A police complaint has been lodged by the Allahabad University’s proctor on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, according to news agency IANS.
The agency report said an email in Sangita Srivastava’s name was sent to the AU registrar’s official account.
The AU registrar was asked to buy some gifts from an e-commerce site, in the message, on behalf of the VC on an urgent basis.
The message said that the VC was in a meeting and did not have her bank cards to initiate the purchase herself. Immediately on receiving the email, AU registrar informed the Vice-Chancellor who asked him to file an FIR in the matter.
According to SHO Colonelganj, Awan Kumar Dixit, an FIR will be lodged under the IT Act and other relevant sections of the IPC.
Further investigations revealed that several other persons have also received the same message using the Vice-Chancellor’s name.
