Amrita University Offers MTech Programme In Defence Technology; Know Details

New Delhi: The defence sector is one of India’s fast-growing and expanding sectors, with the Central government continuously emphasizing it to make the sector self-reliant. India is now currently the world’s third-largest importer of weapons and defence equipment.

Keeping this in mind, Amrita University has come up with an MTech course in Defence Technology. The programme has been launched by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is a leading multi-campus, multi-disciplinary teaching and research institution in the country and is one of the pioneers in offering MTech in Defence Technology, the post-graduate programme jointly developed by DRDO and AICTE.

The university has started its admission process for the academic session 2021-22 for engineering students. Engineering students from various streams can apply for the course.

The programme will be based on class lectures followed by thesis work. During the programme, the students will be provided opportunity to do their main thesis work at DRDO labs, defence PSUs, and private defence industries.

“There is an urgent need to expand the research base for developing advanced technology and for accelerating India’s tech self-reliance in defence. Amrita has been working with DRDO on many of the advanced technologies – particularly in the defense R&D. I am sure that the university will be a fountainhead of talent for the robust defence R&D, and manufacturing ecosystem for the defence industry in the country,” DRDO chairman, Dr G Satheesh Reddy said during the launch of the programme in Defence Technology.
