AMU Teachers Seek President Kovind’s Intervention to Resolve Financial Crisis

New Delhi: The teachers of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) sought the intervention of President Ram Nath Kovind to resolve the institution’s ‘unprecedented’ financial crisis.

The AMU Teachers Association (AMUTA), in a letter to the President, drew attention to the fact that thousands of university pensioners have “received only half of their pension money this month causing severe financial crisis and hardships to them”, according to EdexLive.

AMUTA secretary Prof Najmul Islam said that AMU received Rs 17 crore less against the stipulated amount this month.

Besides the pensioners, the researchers and the staff who have not been receiving other allowances, including arrears and leave encashment, are the most affected, according to Prof Islam.

“We have initiated all necessary steps for finding a way out of this crisis. We are fully seized of the situation and will take all steps to mitigate the adverse impact of this financial crunch,” AMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Tariq Mansoor was quoted as saying by the website.
