AP Govt To Enact Law Making English Medium Of Instruction In All Schools
Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Government will bring a legislation in the ongoing session of the State Assembly to make English the medium of instruction from classes 1 to 6 in all schools.
English will replace Telegu from the 2020-21 session but Telegu or Urdu would be one of the compulsory subjects, media reports said.
While there is strong opposition to the move from different quarters, State Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is firm on going ahead with the decision come what may and accordingly, wants to give it legislative backing, news agency PTI said quoting a source in the state government. The Bill is likely to be taken up either on Monday or Tuesday.
As per reports, while the schools up to class 6 will be converted into English medium in the first phase, class 7 to 10 will be taken up in the subsequent phases. This implementation is being done in a staggered fashion due to non-availability of qualified teachers and textbooks.
“We will go ahead with English medium schools, come what may. We have to prepare the students to boldly face and stand up to the requirements of the technology-driven world and we should not be found wanting in it.
We should not feel guilty by not preparing the generation-next to face the highly dynamic and technology-driven world,” the Chief Minister had said in his recent speeches on the issue.
