Arts, Commerce Students Can Also Pursue Nursing Course!
New Delhi: Students with Arts and Commerce background can also pursue BSc in Nursing, the Indian Nursing Council has proposed.
While Plus II Science students, under the present system, are eligible to enrol for nursing programmes, a draft proposal of the council has said that Arts and Commerce students also can pursue the subject provided they have obtained 45 per cent marks.
The council has sought feedback to the draft proposal and the last date to send the suggestions is January 24.
“Candidate with Science/Arts/Humanities/Commerce who have passed the 12th Standard examination (10+2) and must have obtained a minimum of 45 per cent marks in the core/elective/academic subjects taken together and passed English individually would be eligible for BSc Nursing course”, the draft has said.
The BSc nursing course is typically a four-year programme, divided into eight semesters.
The proposal comes after the Council in September last year decided to opt for a single entry-level for nursing by phasing out the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) programme. While GNM is a diploma course, BSc nursing is a four-year programme.
