Guwahati: The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has cancelled the Class 11 Mathematics exam set for March 21, 2025, due to a paper leak. The board will announce a new date soon, adding to concerns over Assam’s education system amid the controversy.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced on X that the mathematics exam was postponed due to “unavoidable reasons.” He did not specify the cause but assured that updates on the new date would be provided soon.
Sharing the update on X, Pegu stated, “The Higher Secondary First Year Mathematics exam, scheduled for March 21, 2025 (afternoon session), has been postponed because of unavoidable reasons. The new date & further updates will be notified soon.”
A senior ASSEB official confirmed to PTI that the Mathematics paper was leaked, leading to the exam’s cancellation. “The Mathematics paper has been leaked, and this is why the examination was cancelled. We are enquiring about the matter and will initiate legal action soon,” the official said, adding that an investigation is underway.
However, in a separate incident, in Assam’s Barpeta district, the Class 9 English exam scheduled for March 20, 2025, was cancelled after the question paper leaked on social media.
As per reports, Barpeta Inspector of Schools Ratul Kumar Das stated, “I would like to inform you that the English paper of the Class 9 annual examination which was scheduled to be conducted on March 20 is hereby postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.’’
A District Level Internal Examination Committee (DLIEC) member revealed to Financial Express, that they learned about the Class 9 English paper leak on March 19. “We suspect the paper went viral on social media… We cannot take any risk, so we have cancelled the examination,” the official said. A complaint has been filed at Barpeta Sadar Police Station, and investigations are ongoing.
