Assam Universities Turned Into Quarantine Centres, Students Asked To Collect Belongings
Bhubaneswar: Universities in Assam have been turned into quarantine centres on the orders of the Disaster Management Authority on Monday. In lieu of this order, students of the universities like Cotton and Gauhati University have been asked to collect their belongings by May 27.
The state university on May 24 issued a similar notice asking students to completely vacate their rooms since the hostels were being turned into quarantine centres for people arriving from different states with the resumption of domestic travel.
“All hostels (boys and girls) of Cotton University are requisitioned with effect from May 25 to develop quarantine facilities, particularly for accommodating interstate passengers coming from outside Assam,” the notice read.
Gauhati University, in a similar notification issued on Monday said, “All boarders are hereby informed, as endorsed by an emergent meeting of all wardens with the university authority to arrange to collect their necessary items from their respective hostels by May 27.”
For students who are unable to collect their belongings, the varsities have instructed the wardens to keep them safe in their custody, the notice added.
Meanwhile, other educational institutions like Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Indian Institute of Management Shillong, many Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalayas have already transformed their rooms and hostels into quarantine centres.
