‘Aveti Learning’ Conducting Online Classes For Students Of Odisha Govt Schools

Bhubaneswar: A group of youngsters in the capital city is enhancing the knowledge base of the state’s rural students through online classes. The group started live online classes on March 30, after the government announced nationwide lockdown and have reached out to more than 90,000 students thus far.

Aveti Learning, as the group is named, was launched in 2017. They create videos that include interactive exercises and make them available in digitised mediums. The aim is to spread more learning content to government schools in the state.

During the lockdown period, a group of five teachers have conducted classes for students of Classes 9 and 10.

“We know most of our students are comfortable studying in Odia, and are from lower income groups. Not wanting them to fall behind, our content team got to work immediately and we began taking live classes within a few days of the start of lockdown,” informed Sushant Kumar Mahapatra, a core member of the organisation.

They have conducted 65 live classes so far. The classes are also for viewing later. Till the first week of May, viewership touched the onme-million mark with a total viewership time of 1,21,600 hours.

Various subjects like mathematics, science and social studies are covered.

Classes are conducted on weekdays while on Sundays guest lectures are conducted by eminent experts who are invited to share their experiences and speak to the students on topics such as historical places and self-motivation.

The sessions include interactive learning, video lessons, live lectures as well as assignments. “The response has been overwhelming, with over 14,000 assignments submitted during this period,” Sushant added.

The group has been working with the government to implement hardware and software solutions to deliver a self-paced learning experience on low-cost tablets in remote places without internet access or uninterrupted supply of electricity.
