NEW DELHI: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has issued a notice, warning students seeking admission against fraudulent text messages.
These messages, as per a statement from the university, claim to offer admission opportunities outside of regular process. The university has clarified that it does not use WhatsApp or similar platforms for sharing official communication regarding admissions.
The advisory follows reports of candidates receiving unsolicited text messages containing false promises of admission and unverified links or URLs prompting users, candidates to click on them. The university has urged all to refrain from engaging with such messages, which may be part of fraudulent schemes operated by unknown parties.

“Banaras Hindu University has taken cognisance of fake and fraudulent WhatsApp messages being circulated among admission aspirants and students falsely offering admission opportunities to them. These messages are also circulating certain online links/URLs asking students to click them,” the notification said.

The BHU said that the official admission-related messages are sent only through the following email addresses: admission.help@bhu.ac.in and admission@bhu.ac.in. These communications are directed to the email IDs provided by candidates during their application process and are also updated on the student portal.
Application deadline
Meanwhile, the university has begun the registration process for admission to undergraduate programmes for the 2025 academic year. Candidates who have qualified the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2025 can apply through the official websites at bhu.ac.in or bhucuet.samarth.edu.in, till July 31.
