Patna: Private schools in Bihar will not be paying salaries to their staff members this month, citing low fee collection as the reason behind the move.
While some schools are likely to arrange additional funds and asked their employees to wait till some time, others will be releasing the arrears in the forthcoming month.
On April 13, the Bihar government had instructed all private schools to only charge tuition fee from parents for the months of March and April.
Even as parents welcomed the government decision, the fee waiver has not gone down well with the Private Schools and Children Welfare Association (PSCWA).
“The private school owners are having a tough time in paying hundreds of their employees without any income. Apart from teachers, the school needs to pay their non-teaching staff and rent as well. Without fees collection, meeting all expenses would not be possible, especially for small schools,” PSCWA national president Shamael Ahmed was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
With pay-cuts, the teachers across the state are in troubled waters. “I had worked till March 19 as school was open. After lockdown, the school management engaged all teachers in preparing online study materials and lectures. However, I received only 50% of my salary,” a TGT science teacher, among others complained.
