New Delhi: Students from 15 states apparently moved the Supreme Court and sought directions to the board to not hold exams in physical mode. The move came soon after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared that Classes X and XII board exams would be held offline.
An alternative assessment method has been demanded by the students for the board exams 2022, and not as declared by different state boards along with CBSE and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE).
According to a Bar and Bench report, the candidates have filed the plea via Child rights activist Anubha Shrivastava Sahai and the Students Union of Odisha. The top court has been urged to direct all boards for the announcement of results on time and an option for improvement exams.
The petitioners pointed out the violation of their right to life in case they are subjected to write the papers in physical mode when the COVID-19 cases are still high.
“It is not more important than the lives and mental health of children, teachers, staff and parents of the children who will have to venture out to appear for physical exam,” stated the petition.
The students have also sought direction to the University Grants Commission to set up a committee to announce the admission date of various universities and also come up with a formula for the assessment of Class XII students willing to pursue further studies in non-professional programmes.
