Board Exams 2022: Supreme Court To Hear Plea Seeking Alternative Assessment

New Delhi: The Supreme Court finally agreed to hear a plea that sought the cancellation of physical exams for Class X and XII to be held by all State Boards, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE).

The request for the urgent listing of the writ petition was accepted by Chief Justice NV Ramana. “The matter will now be heard before the bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar,” Justice Ramana said.

The students have moved the top court and sought intervention against the board exams scheduled to be conducted by the CBSE, ICSE, National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), and various other state boards.

The class X and XII students from over 15 states filed the plea seeking an alternative assessment method for the upcoming board exams. In 2021, the CBSE, CISCE, other state boards chose to evaluate students based on alternative assessment criteria.

The CBSE has announced the dates for class X and XII term 2 exams. The term 2 exams will be conducted from April 26. Meanwhile, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) is expected to hold the ICSE Class X and ISC Class XII exam in April last week. The detailed timetable will be announced soon.
