British Council Brings ‘Reading Challenge’ For Indian Children

To mark the golden jubilee of ‘moon landing’, the British Council in collaboration with UK-based Reading Agency will organise ‘Reading Challenge’ to Delhi and other Indian cities such as Kolkata, Ahmadabad and Bengaluru from November 4. The event is for children between 11-15 years. The theme is based on ‘space chase’.

Reading Challenge aims to encourage children to read for pleasure, improve their English and become confident readers.

Children would learn new things in the event like writing book reviews and how to reflect on a book and express their views as a reader and a reviewer, said a statement.

They will review characters too, develop reflective, communication creativity and imagination skills. There would also be a storytelling and writing session where children would get to learn how to structure a story by developing the characters and the main plot of the story.

The kids must read a minimum of 6 books in 6 weeks from a collection of 35 new, hand-picked books. The books will be issued to the children by the British Council on a returnable basis. They would receive a certificate on completion of the challenge and a special folder to keep a record of their progress. They can collect stickers and rewards for their reading achievements.
