CA Exams 2021: Supreme Court Directs ICAI To Modify Opt-Out Scheme

New Delhi: The Supreme Court ordered the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on Wednesday to modify the opt-out facility dished out to the students for the exams commencing on July 5.

The apex court asked the ICAI to offer an opt-out facility to even those candidates whose centre was altered at the last minute even if the changed centre is in the same city. Earlier, the ICAI had offered the opt-out facility to only those candidates whose centre was changed to another city.

According to the top court, students who themselves or their family members were infected by COVID-19 will not necessarily be required to produce an RT-PCR test report to avail of the opt-out option. A medical certificate by a registered medical practitioner should be enough to opt out.

Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and Aniruddha Bose-headed bench was hearing the three pleas filed by child rights activist Anubha Shrivastava Sahai and 22 candidates led by Sathya Narayan Perumal, and 17 candidates led by Amit Jain, reported Hindustan Times.

About 3.74 lakh students have registered for the CA examinations.
