In a remarkable story of sibling success, 19-year-old Nandini Agrawal topped the CA final and foundation (July) 2021 exam while her 21-year-old brother Sachin achieved All India Rank 18.
The results were announced on Monday by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. A total of 83,606 candidates registered for CA final examination (new course).
First rank-holder Nandini, who scored 614 marks out of 800, had got an AIR 31 in the IPCC exam earlier.
Nandini was promoted two classes in junior school, and has been in the same class with her elder brother. They both went to Victor Convent School in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district, and passed class 12 in 2017.
“My brother and I have been studying together since junior school. We prepared for IPCC and CA final together,” said Nandini.
“Our strategy has been simple — we support each other but we critique even more. When we solve a question paper, he checks my answers and I check his. There were moments when I was losing hope but my brother’s support got me on track,” said Nandini, who is currently doing articleship from PwC.
Sachin was all praise for his ‘mentor’ younger sibling.
“There were times when we fought like crazy, but that only lasted for some time. I would have been happy with even 70% marks as I did not have high expectations but I knew that Nandini will do great. She’s brilliant and deserves all the success. In many ways, she is my mentor,” said Sachin, who is doing his articleship from a Gurugram-based firm.
Nandini and Sachin’s father Naresh Chandra Gupta is a tax practitioner while their mother Dimple is a housewife.
Their advice for CA aspirants is to follow the ICAI study material. “It has worked really well for us,” they said.
