Visakhapatnam: Where there is a will, there is a way. Andhra Pradesh’s K Swati has proved the saying true in modern times. The girl, whose father is a cab driver, is in news for making her way to India’s prestigious engineering college, the Indian Institute of Technology, Patna.
Swati is the first in her school to get admission in the IIT.
Ramu, her father, a cab driver has seen innumerable financial constraints. Twenty years ago, they shifted to Vizag from Pachipenta near Saluru in Vizianagaram in search of livelihood.
He initially started as a construction worker, then switched to driving. However, even then, he made sure to continue his children’s education.
Swati started studying at Chandrampalem Zilla Parishad High School from class VI when her family shifted to Madhurawada from Kancharapalem and started driving a cab.
It was here that her talent got recognised by her physics teacher, Murthy and headmaster Raja Babu.
The New Indian Express reported that Swati has received immense support from her teachers and headmaster. It was their guidance that helped her sharpen her academic skills.
After scoring 10/10 grade in class X, Swati set her sights on IIT. Swati made it to IIIT, however, the headmaster persuaded her to do Intermediate. Raja Babu also helped her get admitted to a private college for which he along with some teachers pooled money to pay her fees. Raja Babu said the school correspondent and a former police officer TSR Prasad also contributed Rs 25,000 for her admission.
Swati has got CSE in IIT Patna and counselling for admissions will begin soon.
