The University of Calcutta has revised undergraduate examination rules for the 2026-27 academic session. It has introduced changes to attendance marks, internal assessment and grade-point calculation.

The revised rules have been announced through official notifications covering three-year and four-year undergraduate programmes. The notices have outlined the revised rules for students appearing for semester examinations.

Students can now receive up to five marks for attendance in each paper per semester. This provision makes attendance a component of the semester-level assessment structure and establishes the maximum marks that can be awarded under this category.

Marks allocation

Attendance       Marks

90% to 100%:   5 marks

80% to 90%:     4 marks

75% to 80%:    3 marks

60% to 75%:     2 marks

Less than 60%: no marks

The university has changed the methods being followed to calculate internal assessment marks and grade points.

Internal assessment forms part of the evaluation process for undergraduate students, and the updated rules are intended to clarify the applicable framework for assessment alongside semester examinations. However, students should consult the official notification corresponding to their course for the specific provisions governing internal assessment.
